I read this on the internet, so you know it must be true!

PATNA, India (Reuters) - Farmers in an eastern Indian state have asked their unmarried daughters to plow parched fields naked in a bid to embarrass the weather gods to bring some badly needed monsoon rain, officials said on Thursday.

Witnesses said the naked girls in Bihar state plowed the fields and chanted ancient hymns after sunset to invoke the gods. They said elderly village women helped the girls drag the plows.

"They (villagers) believe their acts would get the weather gods badly embarrassed, who in turn would ensure bumper crops by sending rains," Upendra Kumar, a village council official, said from Bihar's remote Banke Bazaar town.

"This is the most trusted social custom in the area and the villagers have vowed to continue this practice until it rains very heavily."

India this year suffered its worst start to the vital monsoon rains in eight decades, causing drought in some states.

To answer your questions:

Women have always been considered generally "Lesser" in most societies, some cultures considering us basically chattal - so the leap between a woman being bought and sold like an ox isnt that far from them acting as one. Also, young men being nude is often more acceptable, so that they'd have nude females out there is more drastic.

Lol this reminded me of a book I just finished in Anne Rice's Beauty series, called Beauty's Punishment. Its a BDSM book, so the young slaves are basically used as ponies in the fields and pulling carriages.

Meanwhile, do you have a link to this? It sounds pretty interesting.

I love Anne Rice for her writing. Belinda was one of my favorites, but she pisses me off because she is one of those Authors that is actively trolling fan-fic sites to make sure nobody is using her characters.

Bull**** I say. Nobody is making money or fame from writing some little yaoi story about Louis & Lestat. I would say its a bit of a compliment that so many people love her works so much that they continue to have fantasies about them that they'd like to share with their friends.

So I wrote her, told her what I thought and told her from now on I'll "download her books for free" instead of supporting her.

Boo I say, Boo!!! (they're just fanfics for god's sake)

As for India....
*shakes head* if it was Pony-play, it would probably be fun

That would be more like oxen and the term play is loose there because it's a social custom. Most likely another embarrassing fact is that the women don't normally do that work. And they are saying the fields are so bad the women can do it. America is not alone in disrespecting women, only a few cultures in the world really see women as equal to men. (some admit that women are very important but usually still favor men). most newer agricultural cultures prize plowing and other jobs as the man's work since hunting is gone, and leave women to sow seeds, harvest, and of course cook. To plow is less tedious than to pick.

Yes, they were equal, in the fact that everyone was considered "property" of the state.

(fun spartan trivia: only two people were ever allowed their names engraved on tombstones: men who died in battle and women who died in childbirth. Both were thought of as giving your life for the state.)

I wouldn't say this is pony play in my opinion.
"Pony play" is considered a fetish. This is more just a custom of the people.
