At the end of this year is my highschool graduation ball and I would like to stand out from the crowd by wearing this dress (images attached) Because in Australia there seems to be this "rule" that applies to highschool balls or prom for the US people. What you do is you wear some sort of "trendy" short ****tail/evening dresses which is typically made from shiny satin materials in some form of bright or dark colours and boobs popping out is a common thing. So basically, everyone looks the same.
Pros of wearing my dress: 1.I would look like a princess 2.I want to stand out because I think I wasn't born to fit in 3.I missed out on my year 10 ball and this will be my last year in highschool so it is special 4.I'm used to getting bitchy looks from girls because of what I wear already ( sometimes I wear cat ears, sometimes a collar, sometimes my skirt is too short ) but it empowers me mwahahaha in their faces 5.I would love to look pretty 6.The dress is my perfect size cos it is from Japan, it is slightly small but that's alright. The bust is 80cm while I'm 83cm but the model is my height which is 162cm so it would look fine. 7.If I get the dress, it would motivate me to loose weight so I can look good for the ball =D and that's a pro, I'm currently 50kg and wants to go down to 45kg 8.Lastly, I love it I love it I love it I love it waaaahh~~
Cons of the dress: 1.My mum disapprove because she said no one is gonna wear something like that (well duh that's the point) 2. She also said it's too expensive, originally it is $600 US but discounted down to $400 and it said free shipping too, that's not too bad is it? 3. She said it'll stay in my closet forever
but I love it so much, I want to wear it with a tiara and I'm willing to save up for it Should I wear this dress to my graduation ball? What do you guys think Even if I want to stand out, do you think it's still too much? The dress is pink but.. does it look like a wedding dress? I really think it doesn't but I just want oppinions ^__^
I think the point is that this is your last high school shindig. If you want to go all out, that's up to you. You're the one that has to wear the dress, You're the one that has to buy it. If that's the dress that's gonna help you feel beautiful, then by all means wear it!
I think it looks more like a ballgown than a wedding dress.
Have fun!!

I agree with Torbjorn. I can't comment on the price because I have no idea of your family's finances. It's certainly a beautiful dress. For the record, I didn't wear a typical dress to my prom either (mine was a medieval-style gown with beautiful bell sleeves) and I didn't get any grief for it, though I certainly didn't look like anyone else. I was a bit worried I'd get weird looks, but in the end I felt more confident because I'd picked a dress I knew I liked instead of a generic, strapless monstrosity I'd be uncomfortable in all night.
Your mom probably IS right though, that your dress will stay in your closet forever after prom. As much as I loved my dress, I never wore it again (but it my case, it wasn't as big a deal because it was less than 150$)
I wore a big, fluffy gown for my prom last year, and I'll admit I haven't worn it since. It was a really fun experience, so if you really absolutely love it then go for it, but go in knowing that it is highly unlikely you'll ever wear it again. Mine is still sitting in my closet xP
Memories are worth any price you can comfortably afford. You seem willing to spend $400 so go right ahead. The more perfect the night is for you the better the end result. Most money people use is to gain memories, everyone has plenty of items laying around their house that at one point were bought for enjoyment. Don't worry about the money as compared to your desire. It's a great dress and you've already chosen, besides women should overdress and a truly elegant woman is beyond fads.
Get lots of pictures!!!!! and $400 is a really good price for that dress. This is coming from someone who is poor =p I spent my money on trips to other countries and I will never regret it.
Even if you never wear the dress again you'll have pictures to brag about and stories =p

It's such a beautiful dress! If you want to wear it, then wear it! And you'll definitely be the center of attention. Also, I think you'll be able to wear it again, if for no other reasons other to dress up and take fancy pictures of yourself. It really is a gorgeous dress.

Come up with a cheaper plan B dress, that you still LIKE. If you end up saving enough for the pink dress by all means go for it (you can always sell it if it ends up in the back of your closet) especially if you can come up with more events to wear it to.
Worst thing that will happen is you'll have a decent dress and you've saved up 400$ to play with later.
