Catplay without BDSM?
Permalink Closed

All the years I have interest in "catgirl", I never really thought it had a BDSM aspect to it.

So is it possible to have a 'pet' (or want a "pet', or be a 'pet') without the BDSM aspect of it?

Definitely. A relationship of any kind is going to depend on the wants of two people. If two people want to participate in kitty play without BDSM, then so be it. It all depends on the person.

I mean, that really depends on how you define "BDSM." It's an umbrella term, and most people pick and choose the elements that appeal to them- and apply these elements to their lives in whatever way makes their particular dynamic work.

To me, it seems like pet play, just by nature, is always going to incorporate the D/s (Dominant/submissive) aspect of BDSM to some degree. "Pet" is a diminutive term; by adopting that role, you are becoming something intrinsically submissive. Of course the level of submission varies greatly from person to person, but I think that dynamic is always going to be present, at least below the surface. But you can call this dynamic whatever you want; just because it's present under the BDSM umbrella doesn't mean you have to identify that way.

But no, you definitely don't have to be into the whole fetish gear, whips-and-chains shebang in order to enjoy pet play. Whatever floats your boat is a-okay!

I think so. I personally love the BDSM aspect, but a cat is an independent creature, really. There's no real reason a cat has to depend on (i.e., submit to) someone else.

I always thought it was odd that people here don't talk about BDSM more. I mean, I can't think of a non-pet-play related BDSM post made here in fact. Apart from passing references to boyfriends as 'master' or 'sir' there's not much.

Are most people here just not into BDSM much? Or just don't talk about it much?

I wonder if it's because we seem to have more kittens posting then Masters/Sirs posting.

Also you must admit this is such a fun and friendly site.  Like no other site going (ie fetlife) (not that there's anything wrong with fetlife).

The posts her tend to stay light hearted and fun, but hey a little BDSM talk never hurt anyone. *sly giggle*  Hey is that a ball-gag hidden behind your back?

In the interest of full disclosure:  my profile name on fetlife is lostkitten and yes I'd like to be your friend.

I think most people really just don't talk about it that much. It's never really brought up. Master and I have a very deep relationship in the aspect of BDSM.

But there can be pet play without bdsm or sexual relations. If two people enjoy dressing up and acting like kitties, go for it! ^-^ It's the same as for those without owners or masters. I've always tended to act like a kitty. Master or not. When I didn't have a master, there was no bdsm aspect in my kittiness.

Interesting thoughts on this subject. :)

I'm not into BDSM, which is why that side of petplay is a little uncomfortable to me.

As for the D/s side of things, I guess it makes sence.

Addressing just playing as a cutesy kitty, I'll say that I did that long before I was into (or even knew about) BDSM.

I know this forum isnt mean for furries (and catgirls arent even considered as such) but if its playing as a kitty-cat that you like more than having an owner, you may consider taking a peek into the furry realm. :3 Or just cat-girl cosplaying. With my friends usually we'll just play as our chosen animal, which can be quite a lot of fun.

If you have an "owner" to your inner "kitty" then the nature of the relationship will be some sort of D/s, but there is more than one way to be a cat!

If you remember that people don't have cats, cats have staff, that should solve most of your issues for you. :)

I can't help you too much. My relationship started out as a Master/sub and evolved into a Master/kitten. It's still BDSM, sure, but gentler than the image the words evoke. After all, I'm little, cute and fragile. *big cute kitten eyes*

I'm a furry from WAY back  (That makes me sound old!) Back before furry fandom was "cool" :)

(Yes, there were furries way back - just like there was Dr.Who before Christopher Eccleson and David Tennant!)

Lol I've been a furry since 2003 XD A decent amount of time, but probably not as long as you. What were the conventions like back then eh?

I cant see it work withut BDSM, when some one take komand give order and so on you hawe a swith the belans of power and one parner get power over you. The most fundalement of BDSM wil I say. But it's is only ordes and definicens. In all relationships are the most inporten thing that bout are happy and gets ther needs satisfyd.
