so i noticed that quite a few of us have metal allergies (very annoying) so thought id start this for people to post their tips on how to combat this if you cant get other metals as a replacement.
what i used to do was to coat the object in clear nailvarnish and it would work fine, however that doesnt work for me any more
how about any of you?

I am allergic to anything that is not sterling silver or gold!!! That goes for even a little of anything else in it and I break out into a rash. I never turn green just a horrible crying owwie rash. I tired the clear stuff before but, it didn't work. So eveything I have and get has to be sliver or gold. Sir prefers gold.
When I got my ears pirced the second time they gave me rings that said they were silver.... they weren't and I ended up having to go to the hospital to have them taken out and then replaced with silver ones. It was very painful. This kitty doesn't like fake things or anything not silver or gold!!!!
my answer? wear it for a day, then take it off. yeah, this won't work for collars or rings, but for fashion jewelry, it works. i wear earrings for "sensitive ears" and "sterling," and it doesn't usually cause me any problems, but when i just can't resist wearing cute earrings or necklaces that AREN'T the right metal... i can wear them for only about a day.
clear nail polish works fairly well too, when i remember it. i also heard that putting hydrogen peroxide on the skin where the metal will sit will prevent a breakout, but i haven't tried that. clover suggested silicone from a hardware store, and that's definitely worth a try...
