Different people are ok with kitties and some are not. It is hard to just expect a person to fall into the that role. Some people are not meant for that role, but if it is something very important to you and you really want to do this then I believe he should listen and at least try. My opinion is if he not even willing to try or even help and this is really the road that you want to go down then he might not be the right one.
