I think it is quite normal to miau when you have a cat and you are playing with him or her and she/he is miauing on you and you respond. Even an owner makes on this way some miaus over the day. Well, I do,

Master has been watching an anime called "Elfen Lied" and was so charmed by a character who reminds him of me that he wants me to make her same sound- Nyuu!
Whenever I do he gets this goofy charmed expression on his face!

I mew, yowl, chirp (which I learned from my oldest cat) all the time. I'm usually by myself, but I've finally told my roomate (and best friend) of my kitty nature. Luckily he thinks it's cute (weird, but cute) so he doesn't care that I walk around in kitty ears & tail mewing all the time. I even answer him in mews now.
The cats still seem a little put-off though.
I get those looks like "what the hell did you say to me?" lol

Like MasterZak'skitty, I mew at random people too. Well, not strangers, but my friends and I mew at each other all the time. And I tend to start mewing at classmates when I get stressed O_O.

i dont mew - at most i'll growl deep in my throat. (imagine a dragon growling, that long stretched out deep grating sound you know means dinner is served :P)

the kitten mews pretty much all day long.

to get my attention, to show exitment. in-house or outside. doesn't matter. depending on her mews i can see how she feels better then her facial expresions.

I meow as a form of expression, usually under my breath sort of. I'm definatley more kitty-vocal at conventions, around friends and online though. Then there was that time I hissed at a guy at a haunted house over Halloween.... XD

sometimes I replace sigh/gasp or those sounds that express emotions with meows, with appropriate tone too ofcourse ^__^ and I unconsciously sing a song tune that is stuck in my head with meows instead of words

well, the "nyu" from Lucy in ElfenLied is the true "catsound" of kittens in japanese comic strips with the cute CatGirls - they dont meow ... they nyu ^-^

I meow whenever I am around Sir without even thinking about it, but other than that I only meow maybe once a day when I'm alone and sometimes around a friend of mine who meows at me too. =p One time I was meowing a song to myself while getting ready for the day, and didn't notice my father coming up the stairs right next to me. XD He gave me a weird look and walked away.

I finally had to explain at work to my friends what sounds I was making when I was talking to my Master on the cell. (we mrow back and forth when we run out of things to say directly).

It only took them 7 months to catch on...

I don't meow much. I mrow or woaw more. Unless I'm unhappy or angry then I hisssss, growl and kitty spit/hisss. My lord said has got to help me with my anger issused since I get angry easy. (usually while driving)

sometimes when I talk to my big guy (my big orange fluffball) I talk in HIS language which sounds a lot like mah-kow... seriously, he makes a K sounds... it's hilarious. He gets so indignant too, lol
